APA Writing Style Guides


The majority of degree programs in IWU's College of Adult & Professional Studies use the American Psychological Association's (APA) style guide for formatting research papers and citing referenced works.   The following resources give recommendations on APA format.

Current Students

Students using the IWU APA Guide; The Concise Rules of APA Style, 6th ed;  or The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th ed. should download the APA 6e Guide.

  • citations2go - APA 6th ed. references formatting tool (Android 2.1+)
  • EasyBib - It has a free version or you can pay for the Pro version.
  • KnightCite - Provided by Hekman Library, Calvin College. When you first connect, be sure to select APA as your Citation Style, then select the format that you are trying to cite.
  • ProQuest Refworks Flow - Free to IWU students and faculty. Requires registration with your university email address. Flow helps you to collect, manage and export sources for your research. It allows annotating, organizing by collection, citing and sharing your sources with peers.
  • Reference Point Software - templates for common word processing programs
  • Slate Citation Machine - free from the Landmark Project
